How Many CSRS Employees Are Left in the Federal Workforce Today?

With the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) officially closed to new federal employees since 1984, it's a valid question to ask: how many CSRS employees are left in the government today? According to the latest data, only about 44,000 federal employees are still enrolled in CSRS, making up just around 1.6% of the federal workforce.
